Our class went on a field trip to A Bar H Farm, a sheep farm here in Arizona. We're interested in learning about how to take care of sheep as we plan on getting some in the future.
A Bar H Farm is home to Dorper sheep, a versatile breed common in South Africa. They seem to do really well in the Southern Arizona climate.
Sheep are a good addition to many farms as they help manage and nourish land by grazing and returning nutrients to the soil. Also, sheep can be a good source of meat, milk, and wool.
We were able to see how sheep live and learn about some of the living conditions they need. The covering of hair and wool on their back helps protect them from too much sunlight. We were also able to see the guard dogs that help protect the sheep from predators.
Later, the students even got to enjoy a tractor ride!
Thank you Harry and Anya for letting us visit your farm!
We had a good time, and we look forward to more great field trips.
